Applicants for membership and residence at Trafalgar Co-op must complete the prescribed Application form with full information as indicated, pay a membership fee of $15 per adult household member and participate in-a membership interview.
Acceptance will be by recommendation to the Board of Directors.
MEMBERSHIP SELECTION CRITERIA
The following criteria will be taken into consideration by the Board of Directors and Interviewers when evaluating an application for membership:
- Applicants must be prepared and willing to participate in the development of Trafalgar Co-op as a community.
- Applicants must be prepared to abide by the Bylaws, Agreements, rules and regulations set by the Co-operative.
- Applicants must be prepared to respect the human and civil rights of others.
- Applicants must be financially responsible.
- Applicants’ family size must be appropriate for the available unit.
- Applicants must have indicated a sense of permanency.
OBLIGATIONS OF MEMBERSHIP
Applicants who are approved for membership will be expected to:
- Participate in the decision making process by attending meetings.
- Share responsibility for the operation-and administration of the Co-op by taking a turn on the Board of Directors, committees, or special projects.
- Work to minimize the Co-op’s costs through voluntary labour.
- Become educated in the principles and functioning of the Co-op.
- Pay the housing charge, membership fee, and member loan as and when required.
- Sign and abide by the terms of the Housing Agreement.
- Treat the unit assigned with the care and attention due a family home.
- Pay all fees and service charges for heating, hydroelectricity, and telephone during and associated with the member’s residence in the assigned unit.
VOTING RIGHTS
Each member is entitled to one vote on each item of business for which a vote of the membership is required or sought.
(All persons eighteen years of age or more residing in the Co-op must be members of the Co-op)
